Acting and drama lessons in Pascoe Vale

One-to-one acting coaching — text, character and presence. For school productions, community theatre, drama exams, or simply because you want to.

Why one-to-one

Group drama classes are good for a lot of things — ensemble, play, courage. But they’re a poor way to work on a monologue in any depth, and a difficult place to be if you’re the shy one.

Private lessons mean the whole hour is yours. We can spend it all on one speech if that’s what’s needed, and nobody is watching while you get it wrong on the way to getting it right.

What we work on

  • Text. How to read a script for what it’s actually doing — what your character wants, what’s in the way, what changes. Most unconvincing acting is unconvincing because this step got skipped.
  • Character. Building someone who isn’t you, from the outside in and the inside out. Physicality, voice, history, and the specific details that make a person feel real.
  • Voice and speech for stage. Being heard at the back without shouting, articulating clearly at pace, and using the voice as an expressive instrument rather than a delivery mechanism. Directly related to the singing work.
  • Presence and stagecraft. Stillness, focus, where to look, what to do with your hands, and how to hold attention without appearing to try.
  • Improvisation. Not as an end in itself, but because responding truthfully to something unplanned is the foundation of all of it — and it’s what makes cold reads and auditions survivable.
  • Confidence. For a good number of students this is the actual reason they’re here, and drama is an unusually effective route to it. Speaking clearly to a room is a transferable skill, whether or not anyone ever acts again.
